Encounter in Kupwara: There is news of an encounter between the Indian Army and the Pakistani Army in Kupwara, Jammu and Kashmir. Indian soldiers have foiled an attack by the Border Action Team (BAT) of the Pakistani Army in the Machhal (Kupwara) sector on the LoC in North Kashmir. A terrorist involved in the BAT has been killed. 

A young man sacrificed his life in the encounter

Five Indian Army soldiers including a Major rank officer were injured in the encounter. All five soldiers were evacuated from the spot. One soldier died during treatment. The remaining four injured have been admitted to Army's 92 Base Hospital in Srinagar for treatment.

Apart from the Pakistani Army commandos, the Pakistani Army's Bat Team also includes terrorists from Al-Badr, Tehrikul Mujahideen, Lashkar and Jaish.

Meanwhile, the military operation is going on in Machhal. Only after its completion will it be clear whether it was a bait action or an infiltration attempt. According to the information, on Saturday morning, the soldiers posted at Kumkadi forward post in Machhal sector saw some people moving towards the post. They immediately challenged them and asked them to surrender.

The encounter lasted for three hours

On hearing the challenge of the soldiers, the Bat squad that had come to attack started firing and started running back. The soldiers also fired back and engaged them in an encounter. Firing continued from both sides for about three hours.
