News Topical, Digital Desk : The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has busted a darknet-based drug trafficking network. The network has transported more than 1,000 narcotics shipments across the country since January 2025. The network operated under the code name "Team Kalki" and was using cryptocurrency to launder money.
The NCB said it seized 2,338 LSD blots, 160 MDMA (ecstasy) tablets, approximately 73 grams of hashish, 3.64 grams of amphetamine, and 3.6 kg of liquid MDMA from 13 parcels seized within the country, in addition to two parcels from the Netherlands. The seized drugs have an estimated international value of ₹5 crore. These drugs are commonly used at rave parties.
The NCB arrested Anurag Thakur and Vikas Rathi after three months of surveillance of a clandestine network. The two obtained LSD and MDMA from international darknet vendors based in the Netherlands, Poland, and Germany. They received orders from Indian customers through darknet forums like "Dread" and encrypted platforms like the "Session" messaging application, making it easier to conceal digital footprints.
Use of a "dead drop" delivery system
The network's operators used a "dead drop" delivery system in parts of Delhi, in which drug parcels were left at pre-determined locations instead of being delivered directly to customers. This ensured secrecy. According to the NCB, the accused primarily used Speed Post (India Post) and other courier services for deliveries across the country.
