News Topical, Digital Desk : The country's top court has stayed the Allahabad High Court's order prohibiting the Ramlila festival from being organised at a school in Uttar Pradesh's Firozabad district.

In fact, during the hearing of this case, the bench of Justice Suryakant, Justice Ujjwal Bhuyan and Justice N Kotiswar Singh has given permission to organize Ramlila on the condition that no student of the school should face any problem.

SC stays Allahabad High Court order

The bench stayed the paragraph of the Allahabad High Court order which said that though we do not allow holding of religious festivals in the school ground, this Ramlila has been going on for the last 100 years and this year the festival started from September 14.

The court, hearing a petition filed by the Srinagar Ramlila Festival, issued a notice to the Uttar Pradesh government. It also requested the High Court direct the district administration to submit a proposal for another venue in the future.

What did the Supreme Court say to the HC?

While hearing the petition, the apex court bench asked the high court to hear the Srinagar Ramleela Festival along with other stakeholders on the next date of hearing and submit a proposal for another venue.

The Supreme Court also reprimanded petitioner Pradeep Singh Rana for not filing his complaint earlier and for filing the case after the festival began on September 14.

The bench, hearing the PIL, said, “This Ramlila has been going on for 100 years, and you also acknowledge this fact. So what prevented you from approaching the court in the first place and stopping the festival? You are neither a student nor a parent of students. What interest do you have in stopping the festival?”
