News Topical, Digital Desk : India is moving toward another major achievement in the field of space. The Indian Space Research Organization ( ISRO ) will begin its launch calendar for 2026 with the PSLV- C62 mission. This mission will launch a special Earth observation satellite, considered crucial to India's security and surveillance capabilities.
When and where will it be launched ?
ISRO's PSLV- C62 mission will launch on January 12th at 10:17 am. It will launch from the Satish Dhawan Space Center in Sriharikota. This mission will send the advanced Earth observation satellite EOS-N1 , named " Anvesha, " into space. It is considered to be India's “ one more eye in the sky. ”
What is the speciality of 'Anvesha' satellite ?
- ' Anvesha ' is a special imaging satellite developed by DRDO.
- It has advanced capability to accurately photograph and map enemy positions.
- This satellite will further strengthen India's surveillance and security from space.
This mission will be the PSLV's 64th flight. The 260-tonne, 44-meter-tall rocket is making a comeback after a previous failure. The previous mission, on May 18, 2025, failed due to a technical fault in the rocket's third stage.
A total of 15 satellites will be launched
The PSLV- C62 mission will launch a total of 15 satellites into space. These include one main Indian satellite and 14 other smaller satellites. Eight of these 14 are foreign satellites, belonging to France, Nepal, Brazil, and the United Kingdom.
In this mission, Hyderabad-based Dhruva Space Company will launch seven satellites for the first time. This is considered a major achievement for India's private space sector. ISRO said that one earth observation satellite was jointly developed by Thailand and Britain.
Countdown begins
The 25-hour countdown for the mission has begun. All satellites will be placed in their designated orbits approximately 17 minutes after launch. The entire mission duration will be over two hours.
According to ISRO, the PSLV has completed 63 successful flights to date. This rocket has also launched important missions such as Chandrayaan-1, the Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM), and Aditya- L1 . With this new flight, ISRO is once again proving its reliability.
