Atul Subhash suicide case remains a topic of debate. There is also discussion on how far the tension between husband and wife can lead to a bad relationship. 498(A) law is also at the center of the debate. Meanwhile, BJP MP Kangana Ranaut's reaction has come to the fore.
The BJP MP said that after such a case comes up, a review must be done. There should be a separate body to deal with such incidents. We are in mourning as well as in shock. Kangana said, "His video is heartbreaking. If people make a business out of a marriage relationship, then all this is condemnable. There should not be such a burden on the youth. The boy did this under pressure. We cannot ignore the harassment of women every day by taking the example of one wrong woman. In 99 percent of marriages, the man is at fault, that is why such mistakes also happen."
Atul Subhash made a video before committing suicide. This video went viral on social media. He accused his wife and in-laws of inciting him to commit suicide. Atul was a resident of Jaunpur in UP and was working as an AI engineer in Bengaluru. The police have also found a 24-page suicide note.
Why is 498(A) at the centre of discussion?
Section 498A of the IPC provides for punishment for cruelty to a woman by her husband or his relatives. Bar Council of India chairman and BJP Rajya Sabha MP Mamman Kumar Mishra says, "As far as 498A is concerned, the entire society knows that it is being misused more today. Its proper use is decreasing. Mother-in-law, father-in-law, sister-in-law, brother-in-law, maternal uncle-aunt, maternal uncle-aunt, everyone is implicated."
Along with this, he said, "There is a need for some changes in the provision of this law. Bail should be changed from non-bailable to bailable. Women file a case under 498 (A) in case of a small quarrel at home. I do not blame women but because of a few women who have started misusing it, many women will face problems."
