
News Topical, Digital Desk : The Supreme Court has taken a historic decision and implemented a formal policy of reservation in direct recruitment and promotion of employees for Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) categories. This decision was informed in a circular issued to all the employees of the Supreme Court on June 24.
SC-ST reservation policy implemented for the first time in Supreme Court
After the implementation of this system, 15 percent posts will be reserved for SC category and 7.5 percent for ST category in direct recruitment and promotion of staff in the Supreme Court. This system has become effective from 23 June 2025. Let us also make one thing clear here that this reservation is not for judges but this policy will be applicable to many posts like Registrar, Senior Personal Assistant, Assistant Librarian, Junior Court Assistant and Chamber Attendant.

CJI Gavai had said that all government institutions and many High Courts already have reservation provisions for SCs and STs, so why should the Supreme Court be kept out of it? We have supported positive action in many landmark decisions and as an institution we should implement it here too. Our work should reflect our principles.
SC-ST reservation policy will be considered effective from June 24
A circular was issued by the Supreme Court on June 24 regarding the new reservation policy. In this, all the employees and registrars were informed that the model reservation roster and register has been uploaded on the Supreme Court's internal network 'Supnet' and it has come into effect from June 23. The circular also states that if anyone sees any mistake or flaw in the roster or register, then send information about it to the registrar.
Reservation policy will be applicable on these posts
The model roster details the direct recruitment policy for reserved categories for various designations including the post of Senior Personal Assistant, the post of Assistant Librarian, Junior Court Assistant, Junior Court Assistant cum Junior Programmer, Junior Court Attendant, Chamber Attendant (R), Senior Personal Assistant, Assistant Librarian, Junior Court Assistant. As per the policy, there will be 15% share for SC category and 7.5% share for ST category in the employment posts.
