According to mythology, on this day,  Lord Krishna held Govardhan mountain on his finger to protect the people of Braj from heavy rain. Since then, Govardhan Puja has held special significance. This festival is celebrated with great enthusiasm, especially in Mathura, Vrindavan, Nandgaon, Gokul, and Barsana. So, let's explore what items should be included in Govardhan Puja.

Govardhan Puja morning auspicious time - from 6:26 am to 8:42 pm

Govardhan Puja evening time - from 3:29 pm to 5:44 pm

Puja materials

  • Cow dung (for making Giriraj Maharaj)
  • Kalash, roli, ghee,
  • flowers, garlands,  coconuts
  • Rice, lamp, Ganga water
  • Sweets, fruits and kheer in the offerings
  • Milk, curd, Ganga water, honey, sugar candy

How to perform the puja

On the day of Govardhan Puja, clean the place thoroughly, sprinkle Ganga water and  spread a clean cloth at the place  where Giriraj Maharaj is to be made. Now  make Govardhan mountain from cow dung and start the puja at an auspicious time.  First of all, light a lamp and worship Lord Krishna and Govardhan mountain.  Offer incense, lamp, naivedya, water, fruits, flowers etc. in the puja. Place an earthen lamp or any other vessel at the place of Govardhan ji's navel and pour milk, curd, Ganga water, honey, and sugar candy in it. After the puja, distribute it as prasad. Finally, circumambulate Govardhan ji seven times and perform aarti.

These works are done

On the day of Govardhan Puja, agricultural animals such as cows and bulls are also worshipped. Specially prepared curry and rice are also prepared for Annakut. Panchamrit and butter and sugar candy are also included in the offerings.
