News Topical, Digital Desk : Tension arose between the residents of two villages over the last rites of a Dalit man in the Barsar area of Hamirpur district on Tuesday (July 29). One side was from Bhewad Saheli village and the other from Nanawan village. The dispute started when the cremation ground of Nanawan village got flooded due to rain and heavy flow, so the deceased family decided to perform the last rites at the cremation ground of the nearby Bhewad Saheli village.

The local people objected to this because the deceased person was a Dalit, after which a heated argument and tension arose between the two sides. Seeing the seriousness of the matter, the police and administration had to intervene.

Reasons and events of the controversy

Let us tell you that the access to the cremation ground of the Scheduled Caste community of Nanawan village was not in a condition to be used due to rain. Out of helplessness, the family of the deceased turned to the nearby Bhevad Saheli cremation ground.

The local people protested strongly against this, which led to a debate and confrontation between the two villages. The police and administration reached the spot and calmed the situation and got the last rites performed.

Administration's actions and assurances

Sub-divisional Magistrate Rajendra Gautam informed that due to the intervention of the police the matter was resolved peacefully and the last rites could be completed without any further hindrance. He also said that now the process of finding a permanent solution to this problem has also been started.

The local administration has been directed to identify government land and ensure the construction of a separate crematorium for Nanawan village as soon as possible so that such a situation does not recur in the future.
