News Topical, Digital Desk : Operation Sindoor: The Haryana State Women's Commission has issued a notice to an associate professor of a private university for commenting against 'Operation Sindoor'. The commission called the professor's comment an 'insult to women serving in the armed forces' and inciting 'communal hatred'.
This notice is dated May 12, in which it is said that the Commission has taken suo motu cognizance of the public statements made on or around May 7 by Ali Khan Mahmoodabad, Head and Associate Professor, Department of Political Science, Ashoka University, Sonipat.
The university shrugged off the allegations.
The university clarified that Mahmoodabad's comments were personal and do not represent the institution's opinion. The university said that it is proud of the armed forces. The commission said that these comments were in connection with 'Operation Sindoor' and Mahmoodabad has been summoned before the commission in this matter.
Commission chairperson Renu Bhatia told reporters that the associate professor was asked to appear before the panel on Wednesday. "We waited the whole day, but he did not come. We got an email from him saying he was informed late and so he cannot come today," she said.
'Sophia Qureshi-Wing Commander Vyomika such comments are wrong'
Renu Bhatia further said, "We salute the daughters of the country, Colonel Sophia Qureshi and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh. But the kind of words the professor who teaches political science has used for them. I had hoped that he would at least appear before the commission today and express regret."
The notice was accompanied by Mahmoodabad's comments. In one of them, the professor had said that right-wingers who praised Colonel Sofia Qureshi should demand protection for victims of mob lynching and "arbitrary" demolition of properties.
The associate professor had described the media briefing
of Colonel Qureshi and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh as a show-off. He said, "But the show-off should be transformed into ground reality, otherwise it is just hypocrisy."
The commission said Mahmoodabad's remarks "raised concerns with regard to the insult of women in uniform, including Colonel Sofia Qureshi and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh, and undermining their role as professional officers in the Indian Armed Forces."
