The Ministry of Minority Affairs said on Tuesday that the Saudi government has reopened the Haj portal for 10,000 Indian pilgrims. 10 thousand pilgrims from India can apply to go to Haj. The ministry said that Saudi Arabia has agreed to reopen the Haj (Nusuk) portal for joint Haj Group Operators (CHGO). The ministry said that the Saudi government has issued immediate instructions to CHGO to complete its process without any delay.
The portal was opened after the intervention of the Indian government
Following the intervention of the Indian government, the Saudi Hajj ministry has agreed to reopen the Hajj (https://www.nusuk.sa/) portal to invite 10,000 pilgrims. The development comes at a time when a recent Times of India report had said that around 52,000 Indian Hajj pilgrims may not be able to go this time as Saudi Arabia has cancelled the areas in Mina that were earlier allotted to private tour operators.
This year 1.75 lakh people from India can go for Haj
As per the government's Hajj policy for 2025, out of the total quota of Hajj pilgrims allotted to India, 70 per cent quota will be managed by the Hajj Committee of India, while the remaining quota will be allocated to private Hajj group organisers. India has been allotted a quota of 1,75,025 (1.75 lakh) for 2025 by Saudi Arabia, the ministry said.
People from the Indian government had gone to Jeddah
Last week, Secretary of the Ministry of Minority Affairs Chandrashekhar Kumar, along with Joint Secretary CPS Bakshi, visited Jeddah to review the ongoing Hajj preparations for Indian pilgrims. Union Minister for Minority Affairs and Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju visited Saudi Arabia from January 11 to January 14.
A bilateral meeting was held between the two countries
The visit saw important discussions regarding preparations for the Hajj pilgrimage. It included the signing of the bilateral agreement for Hajj 2025, attending the opening session of the Hajj and Umrah Conference and Exhibition, and bilateral meetings with Saudi dignitaries.
This year Haj pilgrimage can take place between these dates
This year Hajj is likely to take place between June 4 and June 9 in 2025, depending on the sighting of the moon. It marks the beginning of Zil-Hajj, the last month of the Islamic calendar.
