News Topical, Digital Desk : Gorakhpur teacher Divya Singh has successfully reached Everest Base Camp (17,560 feet high) by bicycle. She became the first woman in India and the second in the world to achieve this feat. She achieved this feat on March 24th, when the temperature reached Everest Base Camp, which was -12 degrees Celsius. She received a grand welcome upon her arrival in her village on Tuesday, March 31st.
According to reports, Divya Singh, 28, daughter of Santraj Singh and Urmila Singh, residents of Banauda, Amarota, Piprauli block, Gorakhpur, is a teacher by profession. Her hobbies include cycling and trekking. On Tuesday, March 24th, she set a world record by reaching Mount Everest Base Camp (17,560 feet), the world's highest peak, by bicycle. She became the first woman from India and the second woman in the world to do so. The temperature at Everest Base Camp at that time was minus 12 degrees.
The cycling tour started from Kathmandu.
According to Divya Singh, the bicycle journey began on March 16th from Kathmandu. The journey traveled through Kathmandu, Salari, Surkhe, Phokading, Sagarmatha National Park, Namche Bazaar, Deboche, Phirche, Lobuche, and Gorakhshep, reaching Mount Everest Base Camp. The journey took a total of 14 days and faced many difficulties.
He said the weather was extremely harsh. It snowed and rained every day, sometimes for the entire day. Along with this, a strong, cold wind blew continuously throughout the day, with temperatures dropping below freezing even during the day. The journey was as beautiful as it was difficult.
I had to carry the bicycle on my shoulder.
The climb to Everest Base Camp required carrying a bicycle on one's shoulders for more than half of each day. Among the glaciers, low oxygen levels, high altitude, cold, fatigue, and pain all combined. The lack of oxygen and a heart rate of 120 beats per minute led to shortness of breath. Cycling required approximately 10 to 12 hours each day.
This cycle journey was successfully completed under the guidance of Divya Singh as coach and Uma Singh, MD of Rust Adventure Company. The expedition was flagged off from Vikas Bhawan by District Social Welfare Officer Vashishtha Narayan Singh, DC MNREGA Raghunath Singh, and DPRO Nilesh Pratap Singh.
