News Topical, Digital Desk : In Rajasthan's Chittorgarh, a van had to pay a heavy price for looking for directions on Google Maps. The van travelling with the help of the map reached a culvert which was closed for three years. While crossing the culvert, the van got stuck in a ditch on the culvert and was swept away by the river due to the strong current. Four out of the nine people travelling in the van were swept away by the river. Three people died and a child went missing.
Police said that the driver of the van had allegedly chosen this route with the help of 'Google Map'. He took the van towards a culvert which had been closed for a few months. When the van tried to cross it, it was swept away by the strong current.
There were people from the same family in the van
According to the police, there were members of the same family in the van. The van was swept away by the strong current of the Banas river, due to which four people drowned while five people saved their lives by sitting on the roof of the van. This accident happened around 1:30 am on Tuesday night.
According to police, the family travelling in the van was returning home after visiting a religious place in Bhilwara district. Police said that the van driver used 'Google Map' to find the route, which led them to a bridge on the Banas river which was closed for a long time.
Boom in Banas river
Chittorgarh Superintendent of Police Manish Tripathi said that due to the flood in the Banas river, all the roads crossing the river were closed but this family crossed one such closed bridge and went to the Somi-Upreda culvert, which was closed for a few months.
He said that as the driver tried to cross the river, the car got stuck on the bridge and started flowing in the strong current of the river. "The people in the van broke the window and climbed on its roof and one of them called his relative, who informed the police about the incident," the official said.
Policemen and local people did a great job
He said that police station in-charge Rashmi Devendra Singh immediately reached the spot and arranged for a boat. The officer said that it was difficult to reach the family in the dark but the policemen and local people did a great job and somehow reached the car.
Policemen reached the trapped family
The Superintendent of Police said that the family members kept signalling the rescue team using their mobile torches. However, by the time the policemen reached the stranded family, two women and two children had been swept away.
