Simple method of offering water to ancestors (Tarpan Rules)
Fill a copper or brass vessel with clean water.
Add some Ganga water, raw milk, black sesame seeds, and barley to it.
Wear a Kusha ring on your ring finger. According to scriptures, offering tarpan (offering water) without Kusha is considered incomplete.
Stand facing south.
Join both palms and fill with water and slowly release the water into the vessel from the thumb side.
While releasing the water, meditate on your ancestors.
After offering tarpan, light a ghee lamp near the Peepal tree and offer white sweets, as the Peepal tree is believed to be home to ancestors along with the gods.

The rewards of charity on Phalguna Amavasya are multiplied. After performing the Tarpan, donate white clothes, rice, milk, silver, or seasonal fruits to a Brahmin or a needy person. Pay special attention to these things
- Maintain purity in the house on this day and do not consume meat and alcohol.
- Do not insult any helpless person or elderly person.
- Be sure to light a lamp in the name of ancestors in the south direction of the house in the evening.
