New Delhi: Actresses like Zeenat Aman, Parveen Babi and Rekha were considered the key to the success of commercial films in the early 80s. But to compete with them, a sensation came from South Cinema, whose name was Sri Amma Yanger Ayyapan i.e. Sridevi .

She had no competition in terms of acting, dancing and beauty. Of course, Sridevi is not among us today, but her hit films are still discussed. Himmatwala (Himmatwala) 

Director K. Raghavendra Rao and writer Kader Khan's film Himmatwala was released on the big screen in 1983. Sridevi got a lot of limelight in Hindi cinema from this movie. Actors like Jeetendra, Waheeda Rehman, Amjad Khan, Kader Khan and Shakti Kapoor were also a part of this film.

Himmatwala did wonders at the box office and achieved bumper success with a collection of 5 crores . Let us tell you that Sridevi made her Bollywood debut with a film like Rani Mera Naam. Before this, she had played a long innings as an actress in South cinema.

Gift 

A year later, Sridevi returned with K Raghavendra Rao, Kader Khan and Jeetendra. The year was 1984 and the film was Tohfa. It is known as a Bollywood cult movie. Sridevi played the role of Lalita in the film. Apart from her, Jaya Prada also played an important role in Tohfa. The situation was such that Tohfa was included in the list of highest grossing films of that year and its net box office collection was 4.5 crores .

Karma

Director Subhash Ghai's multi-starrer film Karma had taken Sridevi's acting career to the seventh heaven. This film, which set an example of patriotism, did a blockbuster business of 7 crores at the box office in 1986 and proved to be a superhit. Apart from Sridevi, this film also featured veteran actors like Poonam Dhillon, Nutan, Dilip Kumar, Jackie Shroff, Naseeruddin Shah, Anupam Kher, Dara Singh and Anil Kapoor. 

Nagina 

After the success of Karma, Sridevi showed her acting skills in the film Nagina in the same year. This was the first time when Sridevi appeared in the avatar of a serpent on the silver screen. Nagina, adorned with actors like Rishi Kapoor, Sushma Seth and Amrish Puri, brought a new revolution in earning at the box office and surprised everyone by collecting 4.75 crores . After this film, Sridevi was called the Lady Amitabh Bachchan of the industry.
