News Topical, Digital Desk : The festival of Diwali holds special significance in Hinduism. On this day, devotees worship Goddess Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth, and Lord Ganesha with rituals. They also pray for Goddess Lakshmi's arrival in their homes. There's a mythological story behind the practice of worshipping Ganesha alongside Lakshmi (Diwali Puja). Let's learn more about it.

What is mythology

According to a story in the Mahapurana, Goddess Lakshmi once became very proud of herself, as the entire world yearns for her blessings. Lord Vishnu told her that while the entire world yearns for her, she is always yearning for children because she has no children.

This saddened Lakshmi, who then shared this with Goddess Parvati. Parvati placed her son, Ganesha, in Lakshmi's lap. Since then, Ganesha has been considered Lakshmi's adopted son. Pleased, Lakshmi blessed Ganesha, promising that he would be worshipped alongside her.

This is also a reason

Another reason for worshipping Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha together on Diwali (Diwali 2025) is that Goddess Lakshmi is the goddess of wealth and prosperity. Whereas Lord Ganesha is worshipped as the god of wisdom and discretion. Therefore, the influx of wealth can lead to arrogance, so Ganesha is worshipped alongside Goddess Lakshmi.

So that the seeker can use his wealth wisely, with discretion and wisdom. Ganesha is also known as the remover of obstacles. It is believed that worshipping Ganesha along with Goddess Lakshmi on Diwali removes all obstacles in life and paves the way for prosperity for the seeker.
