New Delhi: More water is being released into the Yamuna from Hathni Kund Barrage than in the past. On Thursday, a maximum of 53787 cusecs of water was released. In the past, an average of three hundred and fifty cusecs of water was being released per hour. The water level of the Yamuna is expected to rise due to the release of more water.
Even during the monsoon season, less amount of water was being released into Yamuna from Hathni Kund. Only on 27th July, a maximum of 26192 cusecs of water was released, but after that the amount started decreasing. On Thursday morning, around 50 thousand cusecs of water was being released.
53787 cusecs of water was released at 4 am
The maximum water released was 53787 cusecs at 4 am. After that, it started decreasing. In the evening, it decreased further. At around 5 pm, it was 15 thousand cusecs and at 7 pm, it further decreased to 5350 cusecs.
More water is being released than before
Officials of the Irrigation and Flood Control Department say that due to the rains in Himachal Pradesh and other states since Wednesday, more water is being released from Hathni Kund Barrage than before. Despite the release of more water, there is no danger of flood right now.
An alert is issued when the level reaches 204.5 metres.
The water level of Yamuna reaches the warning level when one lakh cusecs of water is released. The water level near Purana Loha Pul was recorded at 202.16 meters on Thursday. A warning is issued when the water level reaches 204.5 meters here.
