News Topical, Digital Desk : A cup of coffee and hot idli-dosa... Do you also find the combination of these two things tasty? If yes, then you must read this article. Actually, nutritionist Rita Jain has made a shocking revelation about this popular combination through an Instagram reel, which is very important for you to know about.

Yes, eating coffee and fermented foods together can have a negative effect on your health. Let's know what is the whole matter and why you should avoid mixing these two (Coffee Fermented Food Interaction).

Why is the combination of coffee and fermented foods bad?

Acidic Nature

Coffee contains caffeine, which is acidic in nature.  Fermented foods like idli and dosa  also become acidic due to the fermentation process. When you take two acidic things together, it can cause stomach problems like acidity or indigestion in some people.

Absorption of nutrients

The tannins and caffeine present in coffee can inhibit the absorption of essential minerals like iron and calcium in the body. On the other hand, fermented foods like idli and dosa are rich in iron and calcium as they are made from lentils and rice. If you drink instant coffee with these iron and calcium-rich food items, chances are that your body will not get the full benefit of these nutrients.

What to do?

The best way is to keep a gap of at least 30 minutes to 1 hour between your coffee and fermented breakfast. This gives the body time to absorb the nutrients properly.

If you feel acidity , stomach pain or any other discomfort after consuming coffee and fermented foods together  , it is a sign that you should change this habit.
