Patna. Bihar News: The controversy over lateral entry in government jobs has heated up the politics of not only the country but also Bihar. Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi is in the mood to agitate for sub-classification of Scheduled Castes. He will hold a rally of 18 out of 22 Scheduled Castes.
We will put pressure on the state government for sub-classification. According to them, only four scheduled castes (Paswan, Ravidas, Dhobi and Pasi) are getting the major benefit of reservation.
On the other hand, a large section of the Scheduled Castes is against the sub-classification. They have come out on the streets. The truth of Bihar is that a large population of Scheduled Castes has not been able to get a place in government jobs in proportion to their numbers.
It is also true that among the 18 castes that Manjhi is talking about, except for one Musahar, the other 17 castes are exceptions in government jobs.
What does the analysis of caste based census say?
Analysis of caste based survey in Bihar shows that Paswans constitute 5.31 percent of the total population. Their participation in government jobs is 1.44 percent. Ravidas is second with 5.31 percent.
Their participation in government jobs is 1.20 percent. Two castes with less than one percent population, Dhobi (0.83) and Pasi (0.98) have 3.14 and 2.00 percent government jobs respectively. The number of these four is 12.37 percent of the total population.
There is a participation of 7.78 percent in government jobs. But, apart from these four, the condition of 18 scheduled castes cannot be said to be good. According to the caste based census report, Mushars are at third place after Paswan and Ravidas.
Their population is 3.8 percent. Participation in government jobs is 0.26 percent. Other scheduled castes, whose population is stated to be 3.48 percent, are not seen in government jobs.
These are- Bantar, Bauri, Bhuiyan, Chaupal, Dabgar, Dom, Ghasiya, Halalkhor, Hela/Mehtar, Kanjar, Koriyar, Lalbegi, Nat, Pani, Rajwar, Turi and Tun. Scheduled castes backward in government jobs are also backward in politics.
The same is true in politics
In Bihar, six out of 40 Lok Sabha seats are reserved. Paswan, Ravidas, Musahar and Pasi castes are MPs. These castes are also represented in the Vidhan Sabha. The Dhobi caste did not get much opportunity in politics in government jobs.
Paswans and Ravidass who are backward in jobs are ahead in politics. These politically conscious castes get patronage in all parties. Musahars who are backward in jobs are also no less in politics. Jitan Ram Manjhi is currently a minister at the Centre. His son Santosh Kumar is a minister in Bihar.
