Feeding green fodder and vegetables to cows on Bhishma Ashtami is also considered auspicious. This relieves mental stress and increases positive energy. On this day, people perform Bhishma Tarpan, or water offerings to Bhishma Pitamah, using sesame seeds, Kusha grass, and water. It is believed that this brings freedom from sins and blessings for the growth of their lineage.
