News Topical, Digital Desk : Ekoddishta Shraddha is performed on Bhishma Ashtami. Today, we'll share some valuable teachings of Bhishma Pitamah, which remain relevant even today. The teachings Pitamah gave to the Pandavas in the final moments of his life are known as "Rajdharma" and "Anushasan Parva," and they are as follows:
What is the duty of a ruler?
Bhishma Pitamah told Yudhishthira that a king's primary duty is to protect his subjects. Therefore, a king should do what is in the best interest of his subjects, not what is pleasing to himself. Furthermore, a king should be impartial when administering punishment. If a king fails to punish a criminal, he himself becomes guilty of sin.
Bhishma explained the importance of sacrifice and charity.
Bhishma Pitamah explained the importance of sacrifice to Yudhishthira and the other Pandavas, saying that no great achievement or accomplishment can be achieved in this world without sacrifice. He further stated that only true sacrifice brings true happiness. Further, explaining the importance of charity, Bhishma Pitamah stated that charity isn't limited to money. Providing food to the hungry, water to the thirsty, and protection to the frightened is also the greatest form of charity.
Respect for women is important
Explaining to Yudhishthira , Pitamah says, "In a family where women are not respected and where women are unhappy, all the good deeds of that family are destroyed and that lineage comes to an end." Therefore, it is important to respect and honor women.
renunciation of anger
Bhishma Pitamah says that anger is man's greatest enemy, and decisions made in anger always prove disastrous. A wise person is one who can control his speech and anger. Therefore, one should never lose his discretion under the influence of anger.
These important things have been told
Bhishma tells Yudhishthira that the human mind is very fickle, straying in a moment. Therefore, to live a successful and balanced life, one must first learn to control their mind. Bhishma Pitamah also describes truth as the greatest austerity. He says that truth leads a person to progress and heaven, while lies push them into darkness, leading to despair and certain downfall. On the other hand, a truthful person always prospers.
