News Topical, Digital Desk : China on Saturday urged India and Pakistan to remain "courageous" and "patient" in the current situation. Amid reports of escalation of military tensions between the two neighbouring countries, China said it is closely monitoring the situation and has appealed to them to take into account the current situation.
"We strongly urge both sides to uphold peace and stability, show patience and courage, seek solutions to the issues through dialogue and political means, and avoid any measures that could further escalate the situation," a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said in a statement.
'The solution lies in peace and the welfare of the region'
The Chinese spokesperson said that in the current situation, any kind of 'misunderstanding' or 'provocation' should be avoided as it will have an impact on the peace and progress of the entire region. He said, "This is in the fundamental interest of both India and Pakistan, and is also necessary for the stability and peace of the entire region. This is what the entire world community wants."
The statement also said that China is ready to play a constructive role in this direction. China had already condemned the Pahalgam terrorist attack and also said that the matter should be investigated.
Why did tension increase between India and Pakistan?
Following the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, India on Wednesday carried out precision strikes on terror launchpads in Pakistan and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK). Pakistan retaliated with another wave of drone strikes on Friday night, hitting 26 locations from Jammu and Kashmir to Gujarat.
According to the Indian Defense Ministry, the enemy was trying to target important installations like airports and airbases, but Indian security forces foiled all the attacks.
India expressed displeasure in Beijing
Meanwhile, Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar had a telephone conversation with China's senior diplomat Wang Yi on April 27. After this, China's Ambassador to Pakistan Jiang Zhidong met Pak Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, President Asif Ali Zardari and Ishaq Dar.
At the same time, the Indian Embassy in Beijing has expressed concern over some Chinese government media posts, which were highlighting the claims of the Pakistan Army. On May 7, the embassy posted on X and warned the Chinese government tabloid, writing, "Beware of old pictures that are being shared misleadingly in the current situation."
On Saturday, the Indian Embassy also shared the refutation of the fake news shared by the PIB Fact Check Unit on its social media account.
