Hours after US President Donald Trump claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had assured him of cutting crude oil purchases from Russia, India on Thursday (October 16) said it is broadening and diversifying its energy source base in line with market conditions.
Responding to Trump's claim, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, "Protecting the interests of Indian consumers in a volatile energy landscape has been a consistent priority of the government. India's import policies are fully guided by national interests, and the country is also considering expanding energy ties with the United States. Ensuring stable energy prices and secure supplies have been the twin goals of our energy policy."
