New Delhi: NASA astronauts Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore are  stranded in space. In the first week of June this year, the Boeing Starliner spacecraft took Sunita and Butch to space.

NASA has informed that it will bring both the stranded astronauts back to Earth in February 2025. At the same time, the US presidential election is to be held on November 5. It is worth noting that both the American astronauts will also take part in the voting process.

Both astronauts will cast their vote

On Friday, both astronauts held a press conference from space. Talking to the media, Butch Wilmore said, I have started the process of sending my ballot today. This is an important duty and NASA ensures that we can vote. Sunita Williams also said that she is also excited to vote.

Understand the whole process

Since 1997, NASA astronauts have been voting in elections from the space station. Astronauts have been voting through electronic ballots from the orbiting laboratory present in the space station. Electronic ballots are sent to the space station via satellite frequency, after which the astronauts cast their votes.

The electronic ballots are then sent back to Earth. These votes are encrypted before being sent to NASA's Mission Control Center in Houston. They are then sent to the appropriate county clerk.

Which astronaut first cast his vote from the space station?

In 1997, Texas lawmakers passed a law allowing NASA astronauts to vote while in space. David Wolf was the first person to vote from the Mir Space Station.
