News Topical, Digital Desk : To tackle the problem of monkeys repeatedly entering the Delhi Assembly premises, the Assembly administration is planning to appoint people who can imitate the sounds of langurs, officials said on Friday.

According to officials, there are many monkeys around the area who keep jumping on the wires and dish antennas and damaging them, causing trouble.

The move comes amid repeated incidents of monkeys entering the Assembly premises, posing a threat to the safety of MLAs, staff and visitors.

Tender issued for deployment in Delhi Assembly

The official said the Public Works Department (PWD) has issued a tender to deploy trained personnel who can imitate the sounds of langurs. This method is considered effective and humane in repelling monkeys without harming them. The person imitating the sounds of langurs will also bring a langur to scare them away.

He said, "There were plans to install cutouts of langurs, but we've noticed that the monkeys are no longer afraid of them. Instead, they sit on top of the cutouts."

Safety standards will be followed while driving away monkeys - officials

The official said that previously, personnel were employed to mimic the sounds of langurs, but their contracts expired. Now, a new tender has been issued to hire trained people who can imitate the sounds of langurs.

According to officials, there is a plan to deploy trained instructors on weekdays and Saturdays, with each person working in eight-hour shifts.

An official said that the agency involved in appointing such trained people will also ensure that proper equipment, discipline and safety standards are followed during the operations.

For this, a certain person can be paid a daily or monthly honorarium. The Delhi Assembly issued a similar tender in 2022, allocating a budget of ₹12.91 lakh. At that time, the plan was to hire six people.
