Apart from this, about 2 thousand staff have been asked to leave by calling them 'underperformers'. This is the biggest layoff in Microsoft after the year 2014 i.e. in the last ten years. Meanwhile, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said that now it is not enough for the company to be known only as a software factory. Announcing a big change in the coming time, he said that moving beyond that image, an 'intelligence engine' has to be created, which makes artificial intelligence easy for everyone.
Just being a software factory is not enough
Nadella says that the mission will have to be defined according to the new era. In a memo sent to the employees, Nadella wrote that when Bill Gates founded Microsoft, he envisioned not just a software company but a factory that is not limited to any one product or category.
Nadella said that under this change, Microsoft will now focus less on making ready-made software products and more on creating such AI systems through which users can design their own applications and intelligent tools.
What will change?
The Microsoft CEO says that it is not just a matter of creating tools for the tasks of a particular role, but rather creating tools that give everyone the power to create their own tools. To fulfill this vision, Microsoft will redesign every layer of the tech stack for AI - such as app platforms, infrastructure, apps and agents.
