News Topical, Digital Desk : Adani News: A bad news has come from America for the Adani Group. According to the news from the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) on Monday, the US Justice Department is investigating Gautam Adani's businesses. In this investigation, it is being ascertained whether his companies have imported Iranian liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) into India through Mundra port in Gujarat?
WSJ's investigation has revealed that some signs have been found in the practices of tankers plying between Mundra and the Persian Gulf. During the investigation, experts have admitted that these signs are common signs of ships evading the ban. The US Justice Department is reviewing the activities of these LPG tankers, which send goods to Adani Enterprises.
What did Adani Group say? Adani Group gave a statement to WSJ that they completely deny any violation of the ban or involvement in the trade of Iranian-origin LPG. The company says that they are not aware of any investigation by US authorities on this subject. Adani, the US Justice Department and the US Attorney's Office of Brooklyn did not immediately comment on the matter. This investigation is taking place at a time when US President Donald Trump ordered a complete ban on the purchase of Iranian oil and petrochemical products in May and said that any country or person buying from Iran would be immediately subjected to secondary sanctions. Corruption charges have been leveled against Adani and his nephew Sagar Adani in the US earlier as well. He is accused of paying bribes to secure power supply contracts and misleading American investors while raising funds. The Adani Group has termed these allegations as "baseless" and has said that it will resort to all legal remedies.
