
News Topical, Digital Desk : A 63-year-old man was found hanging in his Kolkata home on Sunday morning. His family claims that he was living in fear that if the National Register of Citizens (NRC) is implemented, he will be deported to Bangladesh.
A police official said initial investigations revealed that the deceased, Dilip Saha, came to Kolkata from Nawabganj in Dhaka in 1972 and was living in the Regent Park area. Saha was working as a non-teaching staff at a private school in Dhakuria in south Kolkata.
What did the deceased's wife say?
Aarti Saha, wife of the deceased, said that her husband was worried that after the implementation of NRC, he would be sent to a detention camp and then deported back to Bangladesh. He had a valid voter ID card and other documents.
What does the police say?
The police officer said that it is suspected that he committed suicide due to this fear. A suicide note has been recovered from the room. The officer said that the matter is being investigated.
