News Topical, Digital Desk : A court in Khowai district, Tripura, has sentenced a man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for raping a girl six years ago. Police released a statement on Sunday announcing the court's decision.

District and Sessions Judge VP Debbarma's court also imposed a fine of ₹50,000 on Indiranagar resident Samir Kuri, who was sentenced Saturday. Failure to pay the fine will result in an additional six months in jail.

When did the incident happen ?

Tripura Police spokesperson Rajdeep Deb said in a statement that Kuri was arrested on the basis of a complaint lodged in connection with the incident that took place in 2019 and the investigating officer, after a thorough investigation, filed a charge sheet, paving the way for the trial.
