The interim government led by Mohammad Yunus in Bangladesh is constantly seen tightening the noose around former PM Sheikh Hasina. Meanwhile, Bangladesh's International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) on Thursday ordered authorities to ban the dissemination of all speeches of ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on media and social networking platforms.

Actually, this order has come after Sheikh Hasina's recent speech. When she gave her first public address after fleeing Bangladesh four months ago. In her speech, she launched a scathing attack on the country's interim leader Muhammad Yunus, accusing him of committing genocide and failing to protect minorities, including Hindus.

Sheikh Hasina's speeches will not be broadcast

Let us tell you that Bangladesh Sangbad Sanstha (BSS) said regarding this order that a two-member tribunal headed by Justice Mohammad Golam Murtuza Majumdar passed the order and directed the authorities to remove all hate speeches of Hasina from social media. Along with this, steps should be taken to prevent the spread of her speeches on all types of platforms in future.

Speaking to the news agency, prosecutor advocate Abdullah Al Noman said the tribunal has asked the secretaries of the ICT Division, Information and Broadcasting Ministry and Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) to immediately comply with the order.

Demand to remove speeches made earlier

The prosecution had earlier filed a petition requesting the removal and ban of all types of speeches by the ousted prime minister. It was claimed that these speeches could intimidate witnesses or victims or hinder the investigation. At the same time, giving information to the media in this regard, prosecutor Gazi MH Tamim said that giving hate speech is a criminal offense not only in Bangladesh, but in every law and every country around the world.

Tamim claimed that Sheikh Hasina has given speeches in which she was heard saying that she has got a license to kill 227 people because that is the number of cases registered against her. She was even heard threatening the victims and witnesses of the cases registered against her through these speeches.

Sheikh Hasina had described Yunus as power hungry

Notably, in a virtual speech to her supporters at an event in New York, Sheikh Hasina (currently living in India) had claimed that there was a plan to kill her and her sister Sheikh Rehana, just like their father Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was assassinated in 1975. Describing Yunus as power-hungry, Hasina alleged that places of worship are being attacked in Bangladesh and the current government has completely failed to deal with the situation.

It is noteworthy that former Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina was speaking to supporters of her Awami League party on Sunday at an event organized on the occasion of Victory Day, which is celebrated on December 16. Although Hasina has made several statements in the past few months, an expert who keeps a close eye on developments in Bangladesh said that this was her first public address after taking refuge.
