This movie earned crores for the first time

If we talk about the first movie to earn 1 crore rupees at the box office, the thought immediately goes to the old movies. You might be thinking that Sholay might be the movie that did this feat.

But you will be shocked to know that Sholay is not that film, because the film being discussed here was released in theatres before independence.

Now let us tell you that that film was none other than veteran film actor Ashok Kumar's movie Kismet. This film was released in theatres in 1943 and it changed the definition of Hindi cinema. Apart from collecting one crore rupees at the box office for the first time, Kismet also became the country's first blockbuster movie.

The film's collection was more than its budget

According to the report of Saccanilk, the budget of Ashok Kumar's Kismat is said to be around 5 lakh rupees and this movie did a net business of around 2 crores . Now you can guess how big this figure of earning would have been in that era. It is said that this Kismat kept running in theatres for almost 3 years.

Made Ashok Kumar a superstar

In the 40s, Ashok Kumar left a mark with his powerful acting as a Bollywood actor. In 1936, he debuted with the movie Jeevan Naiya, but he got real recognition through luck and his hard work of about 6 years was rewarded by becoming a superstar.
