Congress filed a reply in the Delhi High Court on Tuesday on the petition filed against using the name 'INDIA' for the alliance party. Congress has demanded that this petition be rejected, calling it 'politically motivated'.
Congress, while replying in the High Court, said that the petitioner had failed to establish the basic basis of the petition. Congress said that this petition is not only politically motivated, but it has been filed to pursue a political strategy. Congress has said in reply that the petitioner has deliberately hidden the fact of being associated with Vishwa Hindu Parishad.
Congress has given this reply to the petition filed by a person named Girish Bhardwaj. While hearing this petition, on April 2, the High Court had ordered all the opposition parties to file their reply within a week.
Bhardwaj has demanded in his petition that the opposition parties should be stopped from using the name 'India', because by this the parties are taking unfair advantage of the name of the country. The bench of Delhi High Court's Acting Chief Justice Manmohan and Justice Manmeet PS Arora will hear this petition.
What else did Congress say?
While filing the reply, Congress claimed that it was completely clear that the purpose of filing this petition was to strengthen its political affiliation. The petitioners have also failed to provide any evidence of the alleged loss caused by naming the alliance INDIA.
The party said that the petitioner could not show any provision in the law which prevents parties from adopting the name 'India'.
Congress said that this petition was nothing but a malicious and frivolous attempt to entangle the court in politics and election matters.
What is the whole matter?
In July last year, the opposition parties had named their alliance INDIA i.e. Indian National Development Inclusive Alliance.
After this, a person named Girish Bhardwaj had filed a petition in the High Court. He demanded that the court issue instructions to stop the parties from using the name INDIA. Along with this, order the Central Government and the Election Commission to take action against these political parties.
Bhardwaj said that by 'dragging' the name of the country, Rahul Gandhi very cleverly tried to show that the fight between BJP and PM Modi is against our country. He argued that this has created confusion that the 2024 fight will be between political parties or alliances and our country.
He also argued that naming the alliance after the country can increase hatred and there is a danger of political violence.
