Sanya Malhotra's film Mrs. is a remake of the Malayalam film The Great Indian Kitchen. After marriage, taking care of the husband and the family becomes a priority for girls. In the dilemma of doing this, many times the dreams of the newlyweds get suppressed. Sanya Malhotra's film Mrs. raises this very topic.

What thoughts came to your mind after watching the original Malayalam film?

Sanya says, 'Many questions and such things came to my mind which I had never paid attention to. I have closely observed my mother and the surrounding environment. I never thought that such a story could be made.

Many times you don't get appreciation or even money for fulfilling your household responsibilities. People easily say that you are at home but what work do you do. Our culture is changing. Young women are progressing in their careers, still some people think that managing the house is only a woman's job. I think everyone should know how to do household work. This is important.

A woman's love should not be linked to food

Sanya says that the patriarchal society has defined the roles of men and women, but nothing like that happens. When I became financially independent, I understood how much pressure my father had to work outside. When I came to Mumbai from Delhi and started living alone, I used to wake up at five in the morning and prepare breakfast and lunch. Then I used to go for the shoot. When I used to go to Delhi, my mother used to feel guilty that she did not cook something good for me. She does not need to go to the kitchen and cook something to prove that she loves me.

Many people consider it a responsibility, so it is their thinking, but creating pressure for it is wrong. Like my character Richa is trying to impress her in-laws with her cooking, then she realizes that her dreams are being suppressed. She is being forced to work. She is not being allowed to do a job. I think this is not right.

If you have to choose between dreams and duty, which would be easier?

Sanya says both. It is not written anywhere that if you are fulfilling your dreams, then forget about your duty. Due to what pressures in real life, you feel that you are not able to do your favourite work? Sanya says that I am happy with the way my life is going. I am my own boss. I am running my own business. I have not taken a leave from work for the last seven-eight months. That is why I feel the need to rest so that I can learn something new in my free time.
