Vastu Shastra is an ancient Indian system, which can give many benefits to a person if he follows it in his home and workplace. Vastu Shastra is related to Vastu Purush (Who is Vastu Purush). It is also believed that Vastu Purush is present in every place, whether the place is small or big. He is also known by the names Vastu Devta, Vastu Rakshak etc.
How did Vastu Purush come into existence?
In Brihatsamhita, the origin of Vastu Vidya is told from Lord Brahma. In Matsya Purana, there is a story related to Vastu Purush, according to which, once Lord Shiv Shankar killed a demon named Andhakasur. During this, sweat fell from Lord Shiv's forehead on the earth, which gave birth to a creature with a huge body and a fierce face.
Asked for help from Brahma ji
Later, when that creature started spreading terror all around, all the gods got scared and started praying to Brahma ji to protect them from that terrible demon. Brahma ji advised them that all of you together bury him in the ground, but keep in mind that his head should be in the north-east direction and his feet in the south-west direction.
As per Brahma's instructions, all the gods did the same and buried the demon's head in the ground and stood on it. The place where the god stood came to be known as the area under the dominion of that god.
gave this boon
Then that giant man prayed that all the gods and goddesses should also come and live with him on earth. Brahma ji was pleased with this and named him Vastu Purush. He also gave him a boon that the first offering of any havan performed on any festival will be given in the name of Vastu Purush.
This is the reason that when havan is performed for housewarming or any other work, then a sacrifice is necessarily made in the name of Vastu Purush. By doing this, Vastu Purush is pleased and protects the happiness and peace of the people living in that place.
