New Delhi. In response to an RTI, the Railway Ministry has given new information about the speed of Vande Bharat Express trains. According to this, the average speed of Vande Bharat trains was 84.48 kmph in 2020-21. In 2023-24, it has come down to 76.25 kmph.

Officials said that along with Vande Bharat, the speed of many other trains has also been affected, especially those on which construction work is going on. Apart from this, the movement of some Vande Bharat trains has been started in such areas where their speed has been affected due to geographical reasons or weather.

Average speed decreased due to these reasons

The Central Railway Zone official gave the example of the Vande Bharat train running between Mumbai CSMT and Madgaon. He said, most of the Konkan Railway Zone is the Ghat section where trains pass through low-altitude mountain ranges. This is a difficult area where one has to compromise on safety along with high speed.

He said that the situation becomes challenging during monsoon as well. During this time we have to maintain the maximum speed of all trains up to 75 kmph. A person named Chandra Shekhar Gaur, a resident of Madhya Pradesh, had filed an RTI. Through this, he had sought information about the speed of Vande Bharat Express trains running in the country.
