In May last year, a special court convicted Chhota Rajan in the murder case of a hotelier and sentenced him to life imprisonment. However, the Bombay High Court suspended the life sentence given to Chhota Rajan and granted him bail. However, Rajan is still in jail in connection with several other criminal cases. Apart from this, Chhota Rajan was acquitted by the court in a 28-year-old case of murder of a businessman due to lack of evidence.

He was acquitted in another case 

Apart from this, a few years ago, a sessions court in Mumbai had acquitted gangster Chhota Rajan in a case related to the murder of an alleged member of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim's gang in 1999. Anil Sharma, an alleged member of Dawood's gang, was shot dead by Rajan's henchmen in suburban Andheri on September 2, 1999.
