New Delhi: Only a few hours are left in the US presidential election. A close contest is being witnessed between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris. All the surveys are saying the same thing. Meanwhile, former President Trump seems to be facing a setback just before the election.
Harris leads in Iowa
During the primary phase, Iowa was ignored by both the Democrats and Republicans, but now it seems to have the potential to become a swing state in the election battle. According to a survey, Harris has taken a lead over Trump here.
The latest poll by the Des Moines Register newspaper shows Harris leading Trump 47 percent to 44 percent in support of women and independent voters.
Nobody was focused on Iowa
Let us tell you that before the US presidential elections to be held on November 5, Iowa was not a major electoral state. Both the candidates did not focus here. It is not even counted among the seven swing states - Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, where Trump and Harris campaigned heavily.
Trump won from here twice
Interestingly, Trump won the state by about 10 per cent in the last two elections. However, this does not make it a Republican stronghold, as Barack Obama won here in 2008 and 2012.
Surveys show that women, particularly those 65 years of age or older and those who consider themselves independent, are leaning toward Harris. Senior women seem to support the Democrat more than the Republican candidate.
