Electricity bill cancelled, Rs 1000 fine imposed on executive engineer

In another case from Rae Bareli, Surendra, a resident of Kalyanpur Rally, was sent an increased bill of Rs 13,206 by the electricity department in October 2021. He complained several times, but there was no solution to the problem. Finally, when he pleaded for justice, after a hearing that lasted for two and a half years, the consumer forum has now canceled the electricity bill of Rs 13,206 sent by the electricity department.

Surendra Kumar, a resident of Satanv Kalyanpur Rally, got his domestic connection from Ataura Bujurg Electricity Substation on 15 August 2017. During the connection, he had deposited Rs 980 as meter cost separately. Despite this, he was neither given a certificate of meter sealing nor an electricity bill by the department. In October 2021, he was sent a bill of Rs 13,206 by the department.

Surendra said that he complained to the departmental officials several times about the increased bill, but there was no solution to the problem. Tired of this, the connection holder filed a case in the Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission on 27 November 2021 by making the Executive Engineer a party and appealed for justice.

After a two and a half year long hearing, Consumer Forum President Madan Lal Nigam and member Sunita Mishra cancelled the electricity bill of Rs 13,206 sent by the electricity department and ordered the department to pay the bill for the electricity units used in two years within one month. The forum ordered the Executive Engineer to pay Rs 1,000 as litigation expenses within the stipulated time or adjust it in the bill.
