Prayagraj. Excise Inspector Vandana Singh of Phulpur has been suspended in the case of extortion from liquor shops. Two licensees had gone to Lucknow and complained to Excise Commissioner Dr. Adarsh. When the Commissioner got a secret investigation done, the complaint was found to be true.
A licensee of English liquor in Phulpur accused the inspector that she used to take five thousand rupees from the shop every month, but for the last three months she had started taking 10 to 15 thousand rupees from the salesman. According to District Excise Officer Sushil Mishra, an inquiry was conducted on the instructions of the Excise Commissioner and suspension action has been taken. In his place, Abhishek Mishra, posted in the task force of the department in Lucknow, has been made the Excise Inspector of Phulpur.
Recovery had increased after buying a house in Lucknow
Inspector Vandana Singh of the 2007 batch was going to become Assistant Commissioner next month. She had come here six months ago after being transferred from Aligarh. After buying a house in Lucknow, she had increased the amount of collection. She had started collecting 10 to 15 thousand rupees per month from more than 55 foreign and country liquor and beer shops in the Phulpur area. She got angry when some shopkeepers protested.
