Prayagraj. Sarai Abhay alias Chandauki village is in the assembly constituency of the same name in the Lok Sabha parliamentary constituency Phulpur. This village has no other special identity, but it is known for boycotting the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. Votes were cast in quick succession on Saturday in this village which raised the slogan 'No road has been built, no vote will be cast'. There was a festive atmosphere in the entire village.

People were seen waiting in a queue for their turn to vote at the polling booth set up in the primary school. Their enthusiasm was evident from the voting percentage at the polling booth. The voting speed at the nearby polling booths was slow till 11.30 am, while at the polling booth set up in the primary school Sarai Abhay alias Chandauki, 40 percent of the total 1060 voters had already voted.

After casting their votes, some people were busy chatting in front of a nearby house. As soon as the 2014 Lok Sabha elections were mentioned in the conversation with the Jagran team, Arun Kumar Maurya immediately said - Yes, brother, we all boycotted the voting. What can I say, for many years the road to the main road from the village was not being built, every time we were given assurances.

He said that even today he feels sad remembering the difficulties he had to face during marriages and other functions. Some relatives used to taunt him for this. There were difficulties in taking children to school and women to go out. Whether it was Lok Sabha election or Vidhan Sabha election, candidates would make promises and leave, then would not pay any attention for five years. Harischandra Yadav, Asharfi Lal Patel, Dharamraj Patel and Saurabh Lal Patel, who were sitting next to him, agreed.

He said that in 2014, all of us did not vote, the then DM came to the village and even after his many efforts, only 13 votes were cast. However, we are aware of the importance of voting, a two kilometer long road was built in the village and it was connected to Sikandra road. This time there is a competition in the entire village to vote.

Asharfi Lal Patel and his companions proudly showed the ink mark on the index finger of their left hand and said that the villagers have fulfilled their promise of voting first and then refreshments in the festival of democracy.
