United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has warned the people of the world about the rising temperature of the sea. Antonio Guterres is currently participating in a Pacific Islands Forum in Tonga, located in the Pacific Ocean region.

On Tuesday, Guterres said ocean temperatures in the Pacific Islands are rising three times faster than elsewhere around the world. He also said populations here are being particularly vulnerable to the effects of rising sea levels.

The increase is more than double the global average over the past 30 years

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres also highlighted important reports during a conversation with journalists, which showed that the Southwest Pacific region has been most affected by sea level rise. In some places, this rise is more than double the global average over the last 30 years.

'I'm in Tonga to issue an SOS'

Guterres told reporters that I am in Tonga to release a global SOAS (Save Our Seas) on rising sea levels. He further said, 'Rising sea levels are increasing the frequency and severity of storms and coastal floods. These floods swallow those living near coastal areas. Destroy fisheries and also damage crops. Not only this, but also contaminate fresh water. All these incidents put the Pacific island countries in serious danger.'
