Khandwa News: A tragic accident took place in Kondawat village of Khandwa district of Madhya Pradesh. Here 8 people who went down to clean the well for the immersion of Gangaur Mata died. The cause of the accident is said to be the leakage of methane gas inside the well.

In Kondavat village, the immersion of Gangaur Mata's Jawar was to be done. Keeping this in mind, on Wednesday, the villagers went down to clean the 150-year-old public well, but all of them died on the spot due to suffocation after coming in contact with the methane gas accumulated in the well.

The deceased in this tragic accident have been identified as Mohan father Mansaram (former sarpanch) age 55 years, Anil father Atmaram Patel age 30 years, Sharan father Sukhram age 30 years, Arjun father Govind age 35 years, Gajanand father Gopal age 25 years, Baliram father Asharam age 36 years, Rakesh father Hari age 22 years, Ajay father Mohan age 25 years.

Compensation of Rs 4 lakh
each has been announced. The district collector has announced financial assistance of Rs 4 lakh each to the families of those who lost their lives in the well.  

After this heartbreaking accident, the entire village is in mourning. The families of the deceased are crying inconsolably. According to the village elders, this well was being used for idol and Jaware immersion on festivals for years, but this time it became the cause of a major accident.

Orders to investigate the incident
As soon as the information of the incident was received, the police and administration reached the spot and the rescue operation was started. All the bodies were taken out and sent for postmortem. Khandwa district administration has ordered an investigation into this accident. According to the preliminary investigation, methane gas was present in the well, due to which these youths died due to suffocation after coming in contact with it.
