The tradition of donating hair in Tirupati temple is very old. Once upon a time, once Lord Venkateshwara was sleeping on Neeladri mountain. Then Goddess Neeladri reached there and she saw that there was a spot on Venkateshwara's head, to cover it, she pulled out her hair and put it on the head of the Lord so that his beauty could be enhanced even more. When the Lord of the world woke up and saw that he had hair at the place where there was a spot. On the other hand, blood was coming out on Neeladri's head.
Seeing this, he gave back his hair, but Neeladri did not accept it and said, “In the future (Tirupati Balaji Temple) , hair will be donated by the devotees, which will remove all their sins and sufferings. Also, all their wishes will be fulfilled.”
That is why hair is donated in Tirupati Balaji (Tirupati Balaji Temple Facts)
Apart from this, according to another legend, in ancient times, a mountain of ants had formed on the idol of Lord Balaji. A cow used to come to that mountain every day and used to go away after giving milk, due to which the owner of the cow got angry and he killed the cow with an axe. During this attack, Balaji's head also got injured and his hair also fell off.
Seeing this, his mother Neela Devi placed a lock of her hair on the head of Venkateshwara (Tirupati Balaji Donation History) . This cured his injury immediately.
Lord Venkateswara was very pleased and said, "The hair which completes the beauty of a person's body, you sacrificed it for me without thinking about it. From today onwards, if any devotee sacrifices his hair for me, I will give him the desired fruit." Since then, the tradition of donating hair in Balaji temple has been going on till today.
