According to the rules of Indian Railways, if someone sells or hawks goods on the train or railway premises without permission, it will be considered a crime. If he does so, a case can be registered against him under section 144 of the Indian Railway Rules. If found guilty, one may have to pay 1 year in jail and a fine of up to Rs 2,000.
Many times it happens that some people leave their seats and travel in another compartment with their family or friends. In such a case, action can be taken against that person under the Railway Act and a fine of Rs 250 can also be charged along with long-distance fare.
Railways sell tickets only through registered counters or authorized agents. In such a situation, if someone sells a ticket to a passenger without permission, he can be punished with a fine of Rs 10,000 and 3 years in jail under Section 143 of the Railway Act.
Railways does not allow travel on waiting tickets. Travel can be done only on confirmed tickets. Also, if the train has been canceled, then travel by any other train on that ticket is not allowed. In such a situation, if someone does, TTE charges you the full fare along with the ticket money. The fine can be Rs 250 and TTE may even drop you at the next station.
