Marshall had to be called
Let us tell you that in the JPC meeting, the uproar between both the sides increased so much that Marshall had to be called. During this, a lot of sloganeering was done by the MPs. The opposition has objected to discussing clause by clause on 27 January. The opposition has created a ruckus against this. Let us tell you that the Parliamentary Committee constituted on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill is going to consider the proposed law clause by clause on 24 and 25 January. This is the process of finalizing the report. The report of the committee is expected to be presented during the budget session of Parliament. The Joint Committee of Parliament headed by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Jagdambika Pal has completed its consultation process with stakeholders across the country and is now moving towards taking the opinion of the committee members before finalizing the report.
Wakf Amendment Bill reaches final stage
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla had given the committee an extension till the last day of the upcoming Budget session. The Budget session will run from January 31 to April 4. However, there will be a few days' recess in between. Members can now propose their amendments to the draft law and they will be voted on. Opposition MPs, who are strongly opposing the bill, may propose amendments. However, these are unlikely to be accepted as the BJP and its allies are in majority in the committee. Official sources said a draft report will be prepared based on clause-by-clause consideration and shared with the Legislative Department.
