Aam Aadmi Party MLA Prakash Jarwal will be sentenced in March next year in the case of abetting a Delhi doctor to suicide. Giving information about this, a Delhi court said on Friday that it will sentence the AAP MLA from Deoli seat on March 17, 2025.
The court had convicted MLA Prakash Jarwal for abetting the suicide of a doctor from South Delhi in February this year. The arguments on the sentence in this case were to be held in the court of Special Judge Kaveri Baveja on Friday. But when the judge came to know that Jarwal has appealed in the Delhi High Court against his conviction, the judge adjourned the case.
Jarwal's appeal will be heard in the High Court on March 6, 2025. For this reason, Special Judge Kaveri Baveja gave the next date for sentencing as March 17 after hearing in the High Court.
The case is four years old when on April 18, 2020, Dr. Rajendra Singh (52 years), a resident of Durga Vihar, committed suicide. After the hearing, Delhi's Rouse Avenue Court found Deoli MLA Prakash Jarwal guilty in this case on February 28 this year. The court had convicted a total of three people including Jarwal.
The court had held the MLA guilty of criminal conspiracy, extortion and criminal intimidation besides abetting Jarwal to commit suicide. In his suicide note, the doctor had allegedly accused Jarwal of forcing him to commit suicide, following which the police had registered a case of extortion and abetment to suicide against him.
The deceased doctor was also involved in the tanker supply business. He had alleged that he was being extorted in the matter of tanker supply. According to the allegations, he was harassed so much that he committed suicide.
