The Supreme Court has constituted a task force headed by former judge Justice S Ravindra Bhat to consider the issue of increasing suicides among students in educational institutions across the country. Actually, the Supreme Court has issued this order while hearing a petition demanding an inquiry into the death of two IIT students of Delhi in the year 2023. The Supreme Court has ordered the Delhi Police to investigate the death of two IIT-Delhi students of SC / ST community in 2023.

Delhi High Court had rejected the petition

During the last hearing, the Supreme Court had issued a notice on the petition filed by the parents of two students belonging to the Scheduled Caste category. These students died in IIT Delhi. In their petition, the parents of the students have demanded registration of FIR and investigation of these deaths by a central agency. This petition was rejected by the Delhi High Court in 2024.

Students died in IIT Delhi

The sons of both the petitioners were B.Tech students at IIT Delhi and they died in 2023 in the IIT Delhi campus. The petitioners allege that both the students belonged to the Scheduled Caste community and due to this they had to face discrimination. It is also feared in the petition that the students have been murdered. The petition states that despite repeated complaints, the police did not take any action.
