Nepali record-setting mountaineer Mingma G Sherpa received a heroic welcome on his return home after successfully climbing the highest peaks on all seven continents. Last year, Sherpa achieved the incredible feat of becoming the first Nepali to successfully scale all eight 8,000-metre peaks without supplementary oxygen.
Sherpa, who hails from Rolwaling in Dolakha district bordering the Tibetan part of Nepal, scaled the peak of Shishapangma (8,027m) in Tibet on October 4 and became the first Nepali climber to climb all 14 8,000-metre peaks without the use of supplementary oxygen.
Mingma Ji climbed without using supplementary oxygen
Mingma G climbed Mount Dhaulagiri, Mount Kanchenjunga and Mount Everest in 2022 without using supplementary oxygen. IFMGA guides summited Manaslu in 2021, Gasherbrum-II in 2019, Lhotse and Broad Peak in 2018, K2, Makalu and Nanga Parbat in 2017, Gasherbrum-I in 2016 and Annapurna in 2015 without using bottled oxygen.
Mingma G Sherpa told ANI that I am very happy that I could climb all the highest peaks of seven continents around the world. My dream was to take Nepal's name to the top of the world and become an expert. On October 4, 2024, I completed my ability to climb all 14 peaks above 8,000 meters altitude without any additional oxygen and my latest climb is a continuation of this ability to climb the 7 highest mountains of seven continents.
Mingma has been mountaineering since 2006
Mingma has been mountaineering since 2006 and has achieved many milestones including 5 peaks of Everest, 4 peaks of Mount Manaslua, as well as solo ascent of Mount Kanchenjunga, Annapurna, Lhotse, Dhaulagiri Nanga Parbat, Gasherbrum-I & II, Broad Peak, Mount Chobuje in Nepal and a new route on Chobuje.
He said that the purpose of climbing I am doing is not to break or create records. I am driven by the determination that Nepalis should discover mountains in a systematic way, which has not been achieved till now. We (Sherpas) have a very long history of mountaineering related to expeditions and I think we should have the ability to climb mountains present all over the world, no matter which country it is.
I will continue to work for the betterment of the mountaineering sector- Sherpa
He further said that I will continue to work for the betterment of the mountaineering sector. My goal is to bring the highest award for mountaineering- the Golden Ice Award to Nepal. The record-holding mountaineer was awarded the Honorary Goodwill Ambassador for 'Nepal Tourism Year 2011', Tenzing Hillary Award 2021 and National Award by former Nepali President Vidya Devi Bhandari in 2021.
