Hamas' armed wing, the Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades, released a video on Saturday (Jan 4) showing Liri Albagh, an Israeli soldier captured in Gaza in an October 2023 attack.
According to FP's report, the date of this video has not been revealed. In this three and a half minute video, which AFP has not been able to confirm, 19-year-old soldier Liri Albagh is demanding her release from the Israeli government in Hebrew.
In a statement, the 'Hostage and Missing Families Forum' said that Liri's family has not given permission to publish this video. The family appealed and said, "We appeal to the Prime Minister, world leaders and all decision-makers that it is time to take a decision, consider it your child and take a decision on this as soon as possible."
Albagh was captured by Palestinian militants on the Gaza border
Albagh was 18 when she was captured by Palestinian militants at the Nahal Oz base on the Gaza border along with six other female soldiers, five of whom are still in captivity.
Hamas and Islamic Jihad released the video
Hamas and its ally Islamic Jihad have released several videos of Israeli hostages they have captured during the nearly 15-month battle in Gaza. Of the 251 Israeli hostages captured during the October 2023 offensive, 96 are still in Gaza. The Israeli military says 34 hostages have been killed.
Hamas said late Friday that indirect talks with Israel for a ceasefire and the release of hostages resumed that night in Qatar. There have been no updates since.
Mediators Qatar, Egypt and the United States have tried for months to end the war but have failed. Weekly demonstrations organised by the Hostages Forum, the latest of which is due to take place in Tel Aviv on Saturday, have kept up the pressure on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to reach a deal to free the hostages.
The prime minister's critics in Israel have accused him of delaying the agreement.
