RG Kar Doctor rape case The local court will give its verdict today in the rape and murder case of a female trainee doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. Hospital employee Sanjay Roy is the main accused in the case. After the case came to light, doctors also protested across the country.
Let us tell you that on 9th August last year, a case of rape of a female trainee doctor came to light in the seminar hall of the hospital. The woman was brutally raped and then murdered. The case was heard in the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Anirban Das in the local Sealdah court, who will pronounce the verdict today after 57 days.

- On August 9, a trainee doctor was raped and murdered in the seminar hall of Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The doctor's body was found half-naked.
- On August 10, Kolkata police detained Sanjoy Roy, a civic volunteer at the hospital, as a suspect in the case. Meanwhile, protests broke out across the state.
- After this, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee was seen in action mode in the case and she publicly gave an ultimatum to the police saying that the case should be solved in 7 days, otherwise it will be handed over to the CBI. Meanwhile, the principal of the medical college, Sandeep Ghosh, resigned from his post.
- Protests started happening across the country against the case. After this, the Calcutta High Court took suo motu cognizance of the case and called it a very horrific incident. The court said that if the doctors themselves are not safe then how will they save someone else's life. The court then handed over the case to the CBI.
- A 25-member CBI team was formed in the case and many people were arrested. During this time, Mamata also announced a protest rally.
- On August 14, several medical students and doctors protested across the state.
- On August 14, at midnight, the mob vandalised the hospital. After this, the IMA announced a nationwide shutdown of everything except emergency services on August 17.
- Meanwhile, CBI interrogated Sandeep Ghosh for several hours and also conducted his polygraph test after the permission of the court.
- After this, the Supreme Court took suo motu cognizance of the matter and expressed concern over the safety of doctors. A bench headed by the then Chief Justice of the Supreme Court DY Chandrachud prepared a national protocol for the safety of doctors and formed a 10-member task force. The court also asked the state government and Kolkata Police to submit a status report.
- After this, lie detector test was conducted on the main accused Sanjay Roy and six others.
- The CBI then raided the house of Sandip Ghosh and arrested him on September 2 in the financial irregularities case.
- Following this, the CBI arrested Sandip Ghosh and Abhijit Mandal, a Kolkata Police officer, for delaying filing an FIR in the case and destroying evidence.
- On 7 October, CBI filed a chargesheet against Sanjay Roy.
- After this, on October 11, the trial in this case started in Sealdah Court.
- Due to delay in filing of chargesheet, prime accused Sanjay and other accused Abhijeet Mandal and others got bail.
