Seeing the difficulties faced by Bashar al-Assad's government in Syria, Iran and Hezbollah have increased their support to it. Iran has sent missiles, drones and other weapons to Syria. Along with this, many military advisors and officers have also been sent to Syria. Iran is also providing intelligence information and photographs taken from satellites to the Syrian army.
Hezbollah sent help
Lebanon's armed group Hezbollah has also sent military aid to Syria. The loss of Aleppo and Hama cities within a week and the subsequent march of rebels to Homs city have increased the difficulties of the Assad government.
Russia destroyed the bridge by bombing
If the rebels capture Homs, Damascus will lose road connectivity to many cities. This will increase the risk of those areas slipping out of hand. Russia's army and navy bases are also located in this area. However, to stop the rebels, Russia has badly damaged the bridge on the way to Homs by bombing it.
Revolt in Syria after 13 years
Thousands of people of Homs city have left their homes and gone to safer places after receiving news of rebels' march. Some Arab countries, US and Israel-backed armed groups have launched a campaign against Assad in Syria, which has been facing unrest for 13 years. Whereas Russia, Iran and Hezbollah have stood in support of Assad. But the Ukraine war and Israeli action against Hezbollah have weakened Assad's support.
Jordan supports Assad
Taking advantage of this opportunity, the rebels have caused a major reversal in a week. Seeing Assad's position weakening, Russia has asked its citizens to leave Syria. Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, an organization formerly associated with Al Qaeda, started attacks on Syria on November 27 under the leadership of Abu Muhammad al-Golani. Jordan has declared support for Assad and closed the border with Syria. Earlier, fighters of the rebel group had fired on the border.
